What is planned giving?

Planned giving is a way to make a gift to your charity of choice through thoughtful estate planning. A planned gift takes your needs as well as the needs of your loved ones into consideration, while helping support a cause or a charity that is personally meaningful to you.

How can I make a planned gift to Sarah’s Circle?

Planned gifts range from simply designating Sarah’s Circle as a beneficiary in your will to gifts like charitable gift annuities and charitable remainder trusts that provide a major gift to Sarah’s Circle while returning income to you as the donor. Other options are designating Sarah’s Circle as a beneficiary of your retirement plan or life insurance policy. Your attorney or financial planner may have suggestions that are best suited to your unique situation.

When naming Sarah’s Circle as beneficiary of a bequest, insurance policy, retirement plan or a trust, you should instruct the attorney preparing legal documents that the corporate title for Sarah’s Circle is “Sarah’s Circle”; 4838 N. Sheridan Rd., Chicago, IL 60640. Sarah’s Circle is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization.

If you have questions or need more information about the various gift options available, please contact us at (773) 728-1014 or by sending us an email.

As with any planned gift, please consult with your attorney and/or tax advisor before making any decision.

How do I benefit from a planned gift?

How do my family and other loved ones benefit?

A planned gift can create potential savings on capital gains taxes or estate taxes, lessening the financial burden on your family and loved ones. For instance, a planned gift can reduce your estate tax liability. The assets that you transfer to Sarah’s Circle remain outside of your taxable estate.

How does Sarah’s Circle benefit from a planned gift?

Even relatively smaller planned gifts can be used to sustain certain programs or facilities, add capacity, establish endowments, or launch major new initiatives.

You also have the option to direct your gift to support a specific Sarah’s Circle program or service, such as the Daytime Support Center, Interim Housing, or Permanent Supportive Housing.
