On Friday, May 2nd the Trump Administration released a “skinny” budget request that will cut United States Department of Housing and Development (HUD) spending by 44%. HUD funding is critical to Sarah’s Circle’s success in ending homelessness for women.
This budget request affects key HUD resources such as rental assistance, building and preserving affordable housing, public housing for seniors and people with disabilities, enforcement of fair housing and more.
Sarah’s Circle has served Chicago’s most vulnerable women for 46 years and we remain committed to doing so. If you are as concerned about the impact on women experiencing homelessness and the programs that serve them as we are, please take action by contacting your member of Congress and urge them to push back against budget request for FY26.
We encourage you to urge federal lawmakers to expand not cut HUD programs in the FY26 spending bills by calling or emailing members of Congress. Don’t know what to say? Please use the script below or change it to convey your own message.
“I’m calling today to urge (member of Congress) to expand investments in HUD programs in the fiscal year 2026 spending bill. In my community, hardworking families with children, veterans, people with disabilities, and older adults all need these critical federal programs to help make ends meet as rents have outpaced wages and the housing supply continues to fall short of the need.”
